Art therapy, an ancient tool:
It is well known that art therapy has made its way into psychology. The process is a way of healing unto itself. Art therapy provides a way for patients, adult and child, to tell without talking, and for therapists, it is a way to listen with more than the ears. It is the practitioners who are artists themselves, who do know how to provide a healing environment through art.
Art therapy is a growing discipline which can be useful for depression, grief, autism, trauma, cancer, schizophrenia, and neurological disorders, among others.
Using art in one's life can be used as self-care or as a health treatment. It is like going for a massage, dancing or having other procedures. The critical and healing part is that we do it in the presence of someone else—for example, an experienced art therapist who witnesses us in the experience.
